XI NIAN KUAI LE!!! IVE GOT NO ANG PAO!!!

Oh what a week I've been to. A lot of things happened this week and I'm just as glad as how everything is turning out here in Bangkok. Well sad to say... yeah I think I miss home. Being nostalgic isn't good after all. You miss the food, you miss the language, you miss the people you've been with half of your life and of course you miss "JAYWALKING" hahahaha... I arrived here in Bangkok on January 13 and I've been jaywalking the roads of Silom and Saladaeng for almost a month. Until they wired all of the main streets and what's the way to get to the other side??? Uhmm overpass. URGHH. Anyway who says im complaining.

So recipes for this week - RAW MEATS, Boeuf Bourguignon, Choux Pastry and a Salmon. Okay I really didn't know that French like their meat raw. Soft Raw. It's really weird for my taste because I'm Asian. The only thing I eat raw would be fish. But meat? I dont know. So anyway, we did roast a steak, a full slab of it for only 20 minutes just to make it Saignant. Cooked on the outside but raw in the middle. French like it. Don't ask me why... AND PEOPLE, there's no such thing as MEDIUM WELL. hahahaha It's either saignant (rare), medium rare and well done. Anyway I was on my degustation part, I was about to serve my beef. Cleaned my plate, garnished it and everything. When the chef took a look at the bottom of my plate there was BLOOD STILL. I said to myself "shitshitshitshitshit another mistake!!!!". I thought I was going to die, but then Chef didn't say anything. So I guess in France, it's okay to have blood juice on your plate when you ask for steak. I thought i made another mistake but oh well.

Second thing we did was the Boeuf Bourguignon. Oh my this is heaven. I saw it first at Julie and Julia and I just died when I saw how interesting it looked. We drenched the beef in wine and cooked the beef with its wine marinade for 2 hours. Beef has to be tender. It's tedious but it's worth it. It's just super super. Once you take a bite, you get a lot of flavors. The beef, the wine and the juices of the garnish. But since I'm Asian, I ate it with rice. :)))) Shouldn't be like that.

Sorry.Choux Pastry with Vanilla Ice Cream, Sweetened Whip Cream and Chocolate-Coffee SaucePork Rib stuffed with Mustard Seeds and Herbs w/ Pommes ByronSalmon w/ Lemon Chive Butter Sauce and Spinach Bottoms

Okay this Salmon thingy was as easy. Good thing it's not raw. We had to make the skin crispy but at the same time make the meat pink or ROSE. The lemon chive butter sauce was good! But you can't have it all since it's all butter. I bet youd die the moment you finish all of it. We took home a cup of that sauce so imagine how much butter we used.

That's Dao. She's my other stationmate Lek and Pang's degustationMy version of the salmon. (look how irregular i cut my chives)

So that's how my school week ended...but you know what, We're not done yet. :)))

Friday night we went back to Khao San, but this time we were a little late. It was a good night. They played Don't Look Back in Anger - Oasis TWICE!!! It's all acoustic. Really fun. Oasis, Radiohead, Aerosmith, Beatles, Nirvana. They're just really fun. Everyone else were foreigners. So, no lost in translation at this time. I'll take my friends here one day. ::))) COME TO BKK! I MISS YOU GUYS.

AND LAST NIGHT we Welcomed Chinese New Year! It's my first time to celebrate chinese new year overseas. But to be fair, I think Ongpin is still in my heart. haha :))) Bunny came in her Cheongsam. But where the hell is my Ang Pao??? I miss machang as well and Hakaw and Lechon Macau! SIYET!

I miss The Philippines so much. Yey! haha I think I'll be back soon. :))))) Oh this morning finally I played tennis again at Pang's place with Jeff. They've got an awesome court. It's like you are flying around Sathorn and Yannawa. Everything was overlooking. Tall buildings everywhere and in the middle of a high rise, is a tennis court. Jeff and I played a 45 minute rally and tie break match. It was good!!!

Anyway that's it from Bangkok. Hope you guys are having a blast!!! Today is Valentine's and I'm alone. My movie scheduled event didn't push through so thank you Suka, Sili, Bawang at Luya you just made my day. I cooked Paksiw na Isda earlier. So i nursed a nostalgia for a while.

ALL THE PEACE AND LOVE FROM BKK!

BUT FIRST OF ALL!!! CONGRATS TO SERENA AND ROGER! Australian Open at its FINEST! THESE PEOPLE DON'T KNOW HOW TO PLAY TENNIS!!!

Heyyyyllowww everyone! Oh god I've been going out for THREE days straight now. People are just fun here in Bangkok. But if I do this every weekend, I'd be broke. LOL.

SOOOO... After the Irish Pub Night, me and the people from BC 1 group met up again for this Super Club in Sukhumvit 23 called NARZ. It's more likely comparable to the Ministry of Sound in Singapore and Malaysia. This huge place caters to three genres (Rock, Rnb & Hiphop and Techno). This is where you would see the younger upper class of Bangkok. I guess. This place is fun, well at least they've got some music we understand... The Rock Band area last night were slightly playing Thai Songs and we just couldn't relate :P But good place... Entrance is 400 baht with 2 drinks of any kind.

Narz's Lobby
Hip-Hop / RnB room

Okay move along now, it was a fun Friday night!!! But yesterday (Saturday) was just "consuming/draining" market day. I guess you know where I was yesterday. YEAH! Chatuchak. Oh god this place is huuuuuuge AND a lot cheaper than Platinum Mall. Endless goods, endless food, endless HEAT. hahaha... I wanna go back to this place, but not for a few weeks. If I told you guys that Platinum Mall is the headquarters of all cheap bargaining, well then this is the heaven station. EVERYYYYTHING you could think of. They've got such areas for animals (pets) , furniture, CLOTHING, food ohh what else. just come here. It's reachable via BTS and MRT. I didn't get anything though. It's just too crowded.

FYI, this is not even half of Chatuchak.
We even found an Anti-American Shop. With a shoe dart. LOL
these people...tsk tsktsk.. :))))
and whoever said I was complaining?!@?$#@this should be alive 20 years after...

Earlier though I didn't get to hear Mass. I'm clueless here. But i got to play tennis at my classmate Pang and Jeff's place. They've got a nice court in there!!! THANK YOU GUYSS!!!

OHHH TODAY IS FEBRUARY NOW!!! Hmmm 13 days till VALENTINE'S. But anyway school resumes tomorrow!!! We are making quiche.

ALL THE LOVE FROM BKK...

Babinella - 4th Practical Class

TODAY I RODE MY 1ST DEATH-DEFYING TUKTUK!!! SORT OF FUN. :S

Today is January 26... And today is somewhat a productive one for me. I'm kinda tired from what happened today... Culinary school is fun!!! I just can't wait for our next practical and demo class. Earlier we made Fish Fumet which we used for our Fish in dry white wine and the stock. This has been so far the hardest we made since we had to clean, scale, de bone and fillet the fish and pre-heat the plate in an oven...

My fillet was bad! REALLY BAD!!! I was actually peeling the flesh itself. !!!
Grr.. Well it turned out to be "OK" but I'm sure I didnt get an A+. Chef said that there's nothing wrong with how it turned out. It was good actually, but I served it cold. DA WORST!!! HAHAHAHAHA... but I'm glad i heard the word "good". That's enough for me. But no A+ this time.

Btw, we got yelled at earlier because we we're too slow with everything (well not me) but some... Slow because we had to use hot water while cleaning our utensils. hahaha that's just too painful..But I think i'm getting used to it... RAWRRR!!! Must. do. better. next. time... Oh on thursday we will be making pasta dough!

We Cisele-ed some shallots.
Mine turned out to be as good as this. MINUS THE HEAT.
our class is 90% thais, minus me & raymond and the 2 girls from hong kong
our practical room. "CLEAN YOUR STATIONS!!!"
GO PILIPINAS! haha malapit na pala eleksyon jan ano??

My shirt drew a lot of attention. Here in BKK it's hard to point out a Filipino unless he/she speaks. So my shirt did all of the talking. Just wait till you will hear someone say "UYY PILIPINO KA?". I'm just so glad... I'm craving for an ADOBO this time! People here don't eat pork as much as how make it as a staple food. hahahahaha TOTOO NAMAN EH.

Btw, have you guys been watching the Australian Open 2010???? RAFA WITHDREW??? So I guess I'll just have to stick with Roddick and Venus! OH, Venus looks wonderful btw.... I've been seing too much yellow this season. I hope Venus will get it this time!!! FINGERS CROSSED!!!

SO that's my lazy update for today!!! Not much of a buzz week. My mom is leaving on Friday here in BKK. ANYWAY!!! ALL THE BEST FROM BANGKOK! I have to laundry my whites and listen to Keyshia Cole. BUHH-BYE!!

PEACE OUT

xoxo BABINELLA
